2011 Roads in and around Newcastle
Roads in and around Newcastle
Roads in Newcastle have not had the commitment to be completed as is prudent to do
- Highway 123 is in its 76th year and still not complete. — A completed road, done well, will remove the traffic jams at John Hunter Hospital entry, Russell Road and Croudace Roads intersection, Newcastle and Croudace intersection, Jesmond roundabout. However a poor decision to put traffic lights the intersection of the soon to be complete Highway 123 and Pacific Highway intersection will not relieve the traffic problems sufficiently well enough.
- Hexham Bridge needs to be upgraded to a 3 lanes each way divided carriageway.
- Elizabeth Street Tighes Hill needs to be repaired as soon as possible and opened to two way traffic again.
- The Newcomon Street The Hill needs to be completed in a far more timely manner
- More wheelchair friendly road surfaces and foot paths. As a wheelchair taxi driver I am well aware of the road surfaces throughout the city are of poor quality and are not wheelchair friendly. Therefore we will need to seriously upgrade the road surface standard and look at better quality speed bumps. Some of the wheelchair ramps (roadway to footpath) are far too steep.
- Nelsons Bay road needs to be improved between Fern Bay and Newcastle Airport
