How Should a Christian Choose a Candidate to Vote For?

From time to time we have to vote and for Christians the question is: “Whom shall I vote for?” This can be a vexing question for many as we see so many political parties and so many choices of important issues raised by each political party. We all will find a degree of concern in the areas of the environment, job security, care for the aged, better health, being tough on crime, care for the vulnerable, lower taxes, and so many more important issues. In all this some of the Founding Fathers of the United States of America may offer some strong advice on the character of the candidates. They routinely stated these basic truths about the vital importance of character, godliness and righteousness in a leader. There are some quotes below:

“Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost.” John Quincy Adams

“Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty – as well as the privilege and interest – of our Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.” John Jay

“It is when people forget God that tyrants forge their chains.” Patrick Henry

“On matters of style, swim with the current, on matters of principle, stand like a rock.” Thomas Jefferson

“When you become entitled to exercise the right of voting for public officers, let it be impressed upon your mind that God commands you to choose for rulers just men who will rule in the fear of God. The preservation of a republican government depends on the faithful discharge of this duty; if the citizens neglect their duty and place unprincipled men in office, the government will soon be corrupted; laws will be made, not for the public good, so much as for selfish or local purposes; corrupt or incompetent men will be appointed to execute the laws; the public revenues will be squandered on unworthy men; and the rights of the citizens will be violated or discarded. If a republican government fails to secure public prosperity and happiness, it must be because the 24 citizens neglect the divine commands, and elect bad men to make and administer laws.” Noah Webster

“In selecting men for office, let principle be your guide. Regard not the particular sect or denomination of the candidate—look to his character… It is alleged by men of loose principles, or defective views of the subject, that religion and morality are not necessary or important qualifications for political stations. But the Scriptures teach a different doctrine. They direct that rulers should be men who rule in the fear of God, able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness… When a citizen gives his vote to a man of known immorality, he abuses his civic responsibility; he sacrifices not only his own interest, but that of his neighbor; he betrays the interest of his country” Noah Webster

Who can vote?

Your vote should be free of any coercion in any way at all!

The advice of the founding Fathers of the United States of America is to select a person whose character is above all Godly. We at the Christian Democratic Party do our best to examine the character of our candidates, and while we cannot guarantee that all our candidates are exemplary in every way, we do a lot to discover the character of each and every candidate and we will exclude those who we have doubts about the exemplary nature of their character. So while there may be Christians in other political parties only the Christian Democratic Party work hard to have the most exemplary candidates we can find.

When it comes to policies while we again cannot claim to be the only experts on every field of politics, but we can say; we are driven by our compassionate concern for the most vulnerable. We strongly believe that a strong moral code within all of society will produce the most harmonious and caring community. We have had experience within the NSW Parliament as to the ways of the political process.

Some basic policy principles are:

  • We care deeply for the environment.
  • We want strong business growth to give the best job opportunities for all Australians.
  • We want moral and trustworthy business practices.
  • We are strongly pro-life, pro-family, pro-traditional marriage.
  • We are strongly in favour of Australians only owning Australian real estate.
  • We are in favour of a strong, robust and predictable immigration policy.
  • We strongly support granting shelter to refugees – yet not all refugees are suited to settle in Australia.
  • We support strong laws which must apply equally to all – that is: ONE LAW FOR ALL
  • We support a balanced education system that will inform, train and produce career options for all.
  • We support strong anti-bullying, anti-domestic violence, and strong policies to protect our youth from all forms of violence.
  • We support Restorative Justice by which we desire to stop the cycle of crime and penalty – we want recovery of both the offender and the victims wherever possible.
  • We support good and wholesome palliative care for all facing the end of life situations.
  • and the list goes on and on…………..

So we have the policies and we do our best to give the most exemplary candidates who are followers of God; therefore if you agree with the founding fathers of the United States of America it would be wise to seriously consider voting for your local Christian Democratic Party candidate and our Upper House team.

Will you do that?
