Transport – High Speed Train

The need for fast travel to regional areas is very important to decentralise our population as the major cities are becoming too congested as the unfortunate policies that encouraged centralised populations in Australia that are mostly on the coast fringe. The centralised population has assisted in causing housing prices to become increasingly unaffordable to the middle and low income earners.

Policy:

  • High Speed Rail needs to be from the center of the city to the center town or city.

  • The first High Speed Rail connection should be used to free up Road travel times affected by congestion.

  • A High Speed Rail connection between Newcastle Airport and Sydney Airport via the Northern Beaches would be one of the best choices for the first High Speed Rail connection. The connection would be a 40 minute trip between Newcastle and Sydney and a 10 minutes connection between the Northern Beaches to Sydney reducing about 1/3 of the Harbour Bridge and Harbour Tunnel traffic.

  • A second connection to the National capital will give about a 40 minute between Canberra and Sydney.

  • Similar connection could be made from the other state capitals in the first instance.

  • Construction of High Speed Train services should be capable of intermediate speed services to use the same corridor.
